Adjustment

Specific to:

Ford Mustang 2009-2010

The belt tensioner automatically sets the correct tension on the accessory drive belt. No adjustment is necessary. If tension is incorrect, check for proper mounting of all accessory drives and verify that the correct belt is being installed.

Inspection

Specific to:

Ford Mustang 2009-2010

Inspect the drive belt for signs of glazing or cracking. A glazed belt will be perfectly smooth from slippage, while a good belt will have a slight texture of fabric visible. Cracks will usually start at the inner edge of the belt and run outward. All worn or damaged drive belts should be replaced.

Removal & Installation

4.0L Engines

Specific to:

Ford Mustang 2009-2010

1. Using a suitable belt tensioner release tool, rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt.

To install:

NOTE

Ensure that the drive belt is properly routed and correctly installed on each pulley.

1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

4.6L Engine

Specific to:

Ford Mustang 2009-2010

1. Bullitt vehicles only, remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
2. Using a suitable belt tensioner release tool, rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt.

To install:

NOTE

Ensure that the drive belt is properly routed and correctly installed on each pulley.

5.4L Engine

Specific to:

Ford Mustang 2009-2010

1. Using a suitable belt tensioner release tool, rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and remove the accessory drive belt from the accessory drive belt tensioner.
2. Remove the bolt and the accessory drive belt tensioner. To install, tighten to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm).
